MY FIRST CAR ACCIDENT
On Friday, my two friends and I got into a car accident. We were headed east in Salt Lake City and we were about to pull into a parking stall off to the side of street. There was a crunch of metal and the car came to stop. I was sitting in the passengers seat and when we got t-boned the other car had hit my side of the car. The window airbags deployed and there was a little smoke. At first, we sat in the car for about 15 minutes in shock. We made sure we were all alright before my friends were able to check out the damage. Because we got hit on my side of the car, there was no way I could have opened my door.
As I sat in the car, I was texting my mom who is back in Hawaii, I thought about the possibility that if something had seriously happened to me it would be hard for my mom to be there for me. Tickets from/to Hawaii are not cheap and I really could not process what would have happened had I broken a body part. Another thing I realized was, when I am a passenger in a car, most times I am slow to put my seat belt on. Sometimes I will even ride without it. And as cliche as it sounds, had I not been wearing my seat belt I could have crashed into the dash board or even worse smashed through the front windshield of the car. I’m definitely grateful that we were able to walk away unharmed. Yes, I have really bad back pain but I will take that over being dead or severely injured. I can definitely count my blessings from this experience. What a way to begin the new year right?
